Coach privacy policy
Coach is a personal sports and nutrition coach. It reads the health and activity data you authorise (for example from Health Connect or from your Garmin watch) to show your training readiness, workouts, sleep, body composition and nutrition, and to create training plans and recommendations adapted to you. This policy explains what data the app uses, why, where it is stored and who it is shared with.
1. Controller and contact
The app is published by its independent developer. For any privacy question or to exercise your rights, write to coach.ia.app@gmail.com.
2. Health data the app accesses (Health Connect)
Coach only reads Health Connect data; it never writes or changes records in Health Connect. It reads only the types you allow on the Health Connect permission screen, and you can withdraw each permission at any time in the Health Connect settings.
| Data type | What Coach uses it for |
|---|---|
| Exercise sessions and their GPS routes (with your per-session consent) | Showing your workouts, the route map and the daily plan-adherence evaluation; computing training load. |
| Heart rate, resting heart rate and heart rate variability (HRV) | Computing your readiness and recovery, the intensity zones of each session and trend charts. |
| Sleep | Sleep duration, stages and efficiency; the sleep factor of readiness. |
| Steps, distance, speed and cadence (cycling and steps) | Detail of each activity, daily activity summary and trends. |
| Total and active calories burned, basal metabolic rate | Daily energy balance and the plan's calorie targets. |
| Nutrition and hydration | Calories, macronutrients and micronutrients eaten against the plan's targets. |
| Weight, height, body fat and body water | Body composition, body mass index, body goals and nutrition targets. |
| Oxygen saturation and respiratory rate | Health summary and trends. |
| Background access | Keeping your data up to date periodically (every few hours, and hourly while a Coach widget is on your home screen) without opening the app. |
| History access | Reading up to one year of past data to compute your personal baselines (for example the 28-day HRV average) and show long-term trends. |
Health Connect data is used only to provide the app features described above. It is not used for advertising, is not sold, is not used to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes, and is not used or transferred to train generalized artificial intelligence and/or machine learning models. The use of information received from Health Connect adheres to the Health Connect Permissions policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
3. Other data
- Watch and platform accounts you connect (Garmin Connect, Suunto, COROS): the same kinds of activity, sleep and health data, downloaded from those platforms with your authorisation. Sign-in sessions are stored encrypted on the device. Other health apps may supply data through Health Connect if they publish it there and you authorise reading it.
- Data you enter: goals, sports, diet, allergies or limitations, chat messages with the coach and routes you create.
- Optional training results: activities linked to a session, perceived effort (RPE), repetitions in reserve (RIR), exercises, sets, repetitions, loads and notes. These are kept with the reference prescription to compare planned and performed training.
- Platform activity detail: laps, workout-step definitions and indices, guide references and active sets with repetitions and weight, when present in FIT files. Original Garmin FIT files are downloaded on request and processed in memory with size limits, without saving or extracting the original archive. Structured detail is retained in the app.
- Camera and photos: only when importing a workout, you select an image or take a photo. It is resized without preserving the original metadata. In LOCAL it is processed on the device with a compatible model; in REMOTE or HYBRID it may be sent to your configured AI provider. The extracted workout is saved only after you confirm it.
- Microphone: only on request. Editable dictation uses Android speech recognition; LOCAL requires on-device recognition and allows typing if unavailable. In other modes the speech service may process audio online. With a compatible local model, up to 30 seconds of WAV audio can be recorded and analysed directly on the device. Audio and photos are not stored in Room or the response cache; private temporary files are deleted after use or cancellation, and abandoned files are cleaned after 24 hours when the feature is used again.
- Location (GPS): Coach requests location access (precise and approximate) strictly in the foreground and optionally only when you choose to start a route from your current position in the coach chat. Your location is queried on demand at that specific moment to calculate the round-trip route; Coach never tracks your location in the background. In addition, the app displays the GPS tracks of workouts that you import or authorise from Health Connect and connected watch platforms.
Coach contains no advertising and no third-party analytics or tracking tools.
4. Where data is stored
All data is stored on your device, in the app's private storage. The developer runs no servers and does not receive your data. Settings and credentials are stored encrypted with an Android Keystore key, and Android automatic backup is disabled. Only if you ask for it, you can export a backup to a location you choose, optionally encrypted with a password (AES-256-GCM).
The Room database has no separate database encryption and uses Android-protected private storage. Database backups include training results and do not export credentials. Validated blocks from an interrupted local generation may be retained as private checkpoints tied to the same context and model. They are deleted with local data and are not reused as a new plan after an attempt completes.
User-initiated plan generation can continue in the background through a service with a progress notification and cancellation. The CPU is kept awake temporarily during that work, for at most thirty minutes. Only the execution state and general outcome are saved to report interruptions; the previous plan is retained until the new one is validated and saved. If Android terminates the process, that remote generation request is not restarted automatically. Network retries are limited to DNS failures before HTTP transmission and respect the selected AI provider and mode.
5. When data leaves the device
Data leaves the device only for features you turn on:
- Artificial intelligence: LOCAL inference uses a downloaded model and is not sent to a remote provider. In HYBRID or REMOTE, depending on the task and settings, goals, plans, conversation and health, activity and nutrition summaries may be sent to the provider or gateway configured with your key (OpenAI, Google Gemini, Anthropic, DeepSeek, Azure, OpenRouter or OpenCode). Goal review may include summaries of RPE, RIR, exercises, repetitions and loads; free-form result notes and activity identifiers are not added to that summary. GPS routes and full heart-rate series are not attached as tracks. Coach sends data to generate the requested response, not for model training. Server-side retention and processing depend on the provider's terms and your account settings.
- Workout publication: if you enable publication to Garmin, Suunto or COROS, the workout's dates, sports, steps, targets, instructions and loads are sent to your account. Platform confirmation does not guarantee receipt or execution on a watch. Manual training results and follow-up notes are not published with the workout.
- Body composition upload to Garmin (off by default): if you turn it on, Coach sends your weight, body fat, body water, bone mass, basal metabolic rate and BMI to your Garmin Connect account.
- Route creation: when you request to draw a route, the starting point (which may be your GPS coordinates obtained on demand if you choose your current location), distance and sport are sent to OpenRouteService (with your key) to calculate the course along real paths. Place names you type manually are sent to Nominatim (OpenStreetMap) to locate them. Mobile GPS coordinates are never tracked in the background nor stored on external servers.
- Maps: to draw the map, tiles for the visible area are requested from Esri (ArcGIS) or OpenTopoMap.
- Local AI models: downloaded from Hugging Face; no health data is sent in that download.
6. Retention and deletion
Data stays on your device while you use the app. You can delete it at any time from Settings → Data and privacy → Delete local data; uninstalling the app also deletes it. Withdrawing a Health Connect permission stops new reads; to delete what is already stored, use the delete option. Local deletion does not remove backups you exported or data already in Garmin, other platforms or your AI provider.
7. Your rights
Because the data is on your device, you can view, export and delete it directly in the app. For any other request, write to the contact address.
8. Children
Coach is not directed at children under 16.
9. Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published here with a new update date.
